Are you toxic is an important
question to ask and answer because science is beginning to support the fact that these toxins are contributing to the ever expanding domain of chronic diseases. There is currently no denying that
chemical toxins (poisons) are everywhere.
The foods we consume, water we drink, air we breathe … changes the behavior of our DNA. In Discover Magazine (Nov 2006) “DNA is not our destiny”, the moral of the story is that the
things we are exposed to, will, in the end, be responsible for not only
the diseases we may acquire, but also the way we look.
Chemicals
can enter the body through the skin, the digestive system, and the
respiratory tract. Once in the body, they can interfere with just about
every bodily function we have from hormones production, immune
function, cell communication, cell structure to energy production.
Although
”the body has detoxification mechanisms to deal with these kinds of
substances, when high levels of toxins overwhelm body tolerance,
problems arise.
Environmental toxins can weaken the immune system, causing increased susceptibility to infections and cancer. On the other hand, toxins can make the immune system overly sensitive, giving rise to allergies and autoimmune disease.“ (1)
Journal
of the National Cancer Institute (April 1996) one author states that
cancer incidence could be reduced by as much as 80 to 90 percent just by
eliminating environmental toxins. A British Medical Journal review (Feburary 2004) claims that nearly 75 percent of most cancers are environmentally induced.
You
may have heard the term “toxic burden”. This is the total amount of
toxins (poisons to your body) consumed less your body’s ability to
detoxify them. When we are exposed to or consume too many toxins we may
reach a point of "toxic overload" and this is when symptoms begin to
appear in our bodies.
